Chicago artist Moon Beby has quietly let loose two quality EPs this calendar year. With 23 dropping earlier this year, he recently followed it up with Only For a Season. Treated as a rough EP of demos, these thirteen songs (as well an an additional twelve that were released in the between time) showcase an artist honing in on his craft and his style. Prolific, lofi, ambient, dreamy, nd authentic, these are tracks to play once the sun goes down and the world is fast asleep. “Sequence of Events” demands some grass.

We’re still listening to Lucki’s project Watch My Back from last year, but in the last two weeks, he’s dropped two tracks with the producer Marcus Basquiat. The tracks “4everybody” and “Sports Mode” are exactly what you need to soundtrack your end of the night blunt. Even the artwork is cold.

Chicago rapper MFn Melo has finally delivered with his debut project Melodramatics. The Pivot Gang member (Saba, Joseph Chilliams) enlists some of Chicago’s finest for the eleven song rundown. Bar heavy and full of smooth production (courtesy of Saba, Cory Grindberg, and DaeDae Pivot), the album is yet another fine addition to the Chicago hip-hop scene. Chicago rapper Adot went absolutely apeshit with his newest set of visuals. The 85 second animated music video feels like a virtual reality mushroom high, taking you through wormholes and new dimensions. One of my favorite Chicago rappers to keep an eye out for is Qari. Formerly of the now defunct Hurt Everybody, Qari has spent 2017 stepping out on his own. He started the year with Space Jam, a joint EP with producer Mulatto, and now the two are back with the single “Revenge”. It’s the lead single for Qari’s upcoming EP, one that is right around the corner.

Martin Sky is preparing to release something special right around the corner. His album Stay True is to be released on October 26. For now, you can stream and enjoy the lead single “Right Place”, a thumping instrumental taking you off into the night. Lucki kickstarted the summer with the 18 song project Watch My Back. With production from Clams Casino, Plu2o Nash, Grimm Doza, and more, the project was perfect for the June and July heat. Just last month, he released another heater in the form of “You Called Me” which comes produced by 16YROLD and YUNGLUNCHBOX. It’s a two minute smoke break, one I promise you desperately need.

Mick Jenkins has been touring heavily these last couple of years, and this song is a testament to the ‘in transit’ hours that can truly test patience. Rather than scroll the web into a wormhole of boredom, the Chicago MC turns the purgatory into a ‘2 minute drill’ where he goes in on THEMpeople production and gets geographic inside dense bars. Don’t sleep.
